6th Sense
Apart from the five basic senses, there has been a lot of speculation on the further senses.
All the basic senses come through the presence of an organ and its specific function. If I am right, then... The nose is for breathing but the smell function is a sense. The mouth is for eating, breathing etc but the taste function is a sense. The ear is for hearing only I guess. The eye is for vision only I guess. The skin is a cover but also has sense of touch.
Beyond the physical realm, further senses have been speculated to be a part of the spiritual realm. Meditation is known to induce a sense of emptiness in some. The emptiness which some say God and some just say Nothing. Or a sense of telepathy, telekinesis have also been put forward as higher senses. Even the good ol’ instinct has also been called a higher sense.
I have come across a sense which does not make any sense ;) Meaning I have had a feeling a lot many times which might be a higher sense. I have even tried making others aware of it, though they might not have realized what caused it.
Suppose you are alone, or in a group but slightly apart from the group. Ever had the feeling that someone is watching you? Its automatic. You are just walking or sitting alone and sometimes it just hits you. Someone is watching you. Friendly or not, you don't know. You look around and around, till you find out who is watching you. Maybe a friend, maybe a stranger. But you have to know. Without knowing, the restlessness kills you. You want to know with all your heart. And it all happens in a few seconds.
Its happened to me so many times that I have even tried to play a game. In a place filled with people randomly, I have tried to pick up a person who is not facing me and stared at him/her with total conc. Followed all his/her moves, gestures and all. And lo, within a few minutes, the person is all spooky. His eyes start searching for the unknown starer. To make it more fun, I sometimes stop completely staring at this point and conc fully on something else. This throws the person off-balance and as soon as s/he gets reassured, I am back but with less conc. Never played for more than a few mins but have even got one or two to leave the place just to get rid of his/her spookiness.
Did I intrude upon his/her brainwaves?
It happened to me in college. Many have a big crush on someone. Same was the case with me. Although mine is a bit funny. We had an open cafeteria in college. Whenever I was in cafe, and this girl was entering the cafe, (not from a door, since it was open, from any direction) I used to know about it. Or she would be already there and I am approaching the cafe. Earlier I used to look around to confirm, I thought it was funny and exciting. One swift 360 degree glance would confirm. Later on, many times, I did not even bother. I just knew. It felt funny. And this did not happen only after the college hours. It happened even in between classes, on cafe visits. Happened very less in the college building. Only in the open air cafe. Lol, to think of it now, its like I developed a sensor to detect her brain waves.
Another feeling which I had a lot is deja vu. This feeling has come to me at a variety of places, in a variety of situations. No hard and fast scenario. Just comes and goes. The first time I became aware of it, I was in Class 11. It was like repeating a situation again. It felt strange at the time. Of course, I did not have a name for it back then. I tried explaining to a friend but it seemed a lot difficult. But I was able to get the gist of it. A set of situations which you feel have happened to you before in the same exact manner, where sometimes, you even know what your reaction will be, what you are going to say, what the other person is going to say. A simple act of exchanging a book can evoke a deja vu. Still don't know where it comes from. For me they have lasted a minute or two.
Whatever these feelings might be, they certainly have made my life interesting.
